Austrian, Bavarian, Baroque Period
Walnut and Inlaid 3-Drawer Commode
Last Quarter 18th C.
The top is beautifully contoured, echoing the movement of the front, with intricate geometric inlay radiating from the center. The commode rests on bold turned bun feet typical of the period. The warm, honeyed patina of the walnut and rhythmic interplay of light and dark veneers reflect the refined artistry of Baroque furniture making in Southern Germany and Austria- a blend of sculptural form and disciplined decorative geometry.
