A finely proportioned late eighteenth-century Italian kidney-form console or dressing table veneered throughout in exceptional olive and figured walnut. The shaped top is laid with dramatic bookmatched veneers framed by delicate crossbanding, celebrating the remarkable figure of the timber. The serpentine case is fitted with a central frieze drawer flanked by rounded end compartments and raised on elegant cabriole legs. Richly patinated and retaining the character acquired through more than two centuries of use, the table exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and understated elegance of late eighteenth-century Venetian cabinetmaking.
