Maiolica Heraldic Pharmacy Jar
A substantial tin-glazed earthenware pharmacy jar of waisted cylindrical form, decorated in a rich polychrome palette of cobalt, golden ochre, and soft grey. The front features an elaborate heraldic shield framed by scrolling Baroque cartouches and surmounted by a galero (ecclesiastical hat) with pendant tassels, suggesting an ecclesiastical or monastic attribution. The surrounding field is decorated with scattered gilt-yellow stars over a mottled blue ground. The interior and base are unglazed; the exterior glaze displays fine craquelure, expected abrasions, and areas of wear consistent with age. An impressive example of later Italian maiolica drawing on Renaissance and Baroque pharmacy traditions, with strong decorative presence.
