Inspired by the extraordinary Italian archaeological excavations of the early 1800s these were entirely constructed of carved fruitwood, some parts ebonized and some parts lightly painted in a now faded red, these wonderful vessels were raised and lowered by rope on a pulley, the collector with three hooks supporting the urns by wooden chains, each link intricately carved with geometric pieces and spikes, decorated with a greek key pattern and having overturned lips and tapering to points at the bottoms, each urn issuing three exaggerated greek key arms, truly objects of fine craftsmanship and great rarity.
